Descrizione del progetto

The Jean Monnet Module proposal “Fundamental Rights in Europe: Enhancing cultural sensitivity for INclusiveness” (FREE IN) aims at spreading and fostering cultural sensitivity on the topic of inclusion as a fundamental aspect of the EU mission on enhancement of human dignity protection. Indeed, inclusion represents the foundation of the whole European construction.

Nevertheless, European studies usually focus on institutional subjects as well as specific thematic areas without taking in due consideration challenges related to the empowerment and protection of peoples and minority communities that are unheeded or simply ignored.
The ultimate scientific goal of the project is to point out that, even if the constitutional framework of European countries presents a complex system of protection of fundamental rights, there are categories that, due to social or legal factors, are not able to enjoy an effective guarantee of their fundamental interests. In similar cases, the EU system could pave the way for a further enhancement.

By both focusing on contents and developing innovative teaching methodologies, the Module will involve citizens and, above all, students, both national and international, of the University of Turin enrolled in several (not exclusively law related) bachelor’s and graduate degree courses, drawing closed together academia, the business community and representatives of concerned institutions.

Main activities shall include a course on fundamental rights in Europe and specific insights in other courses as well as workshops, public lectures, thematic exhibitions, open roundtables, and seminars. In parallel, the project aims at publishing principal research outputs in scientific reviews and journals.

The purpose of such activities is to promote and foster cultural sensitivity of students and targeted public and motivate them in being aware of their crucial role for a further progress in the protection of fundamental rights and, above all, human dignity.
