The Summer School will take the Russian-Ukrainian war as a case-study and develop students’ understanding of the interest-based approach to conflict based on their experiences in negotiation simulation, interactive discussion and personal reflections. The teaching goal of the course is to introduce students to the basics conflict resolution approaches and tools, and to contextualize this knowledge to the current war. We will start with a macro-level discussion of the EU approaches to the war in Ukraine from a conflict-transformation and legal perspectives, then the students will explore their own conflict behavior and take part in negotiations simulation. The final part of the course will scale-up received practical knowledge back to the macro-level of geopolitical conflicts and the role of the EU.
